Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth
and our freedom.

GREG BARTON

Nature can be a powerful vehicle for personal development, healing and growth. Bespoke Therapeutic Wilderness Journeys, by combining counselling with the healing power of Nature, are deeply nurturing and transformative experiences which help to restore your inner balance, recharge your batteries and enable you to develop a new perspective and find direction.
When we are close to nature we are close to our real selves.
It can be challenging when feeling stuck or in crisis to take the first step and ask for help, but once that step has been taken a journey of positive growth with new potential can begin.
I offer
-
person-centred counselling in Edinburgh
-
online counselling internationally via Zoom
-
bespoke transformative Wilderness Therapy Journeys on the West Coast of Scotland and in Nepal.
Person-centred therapy is a humanistic approach that deals with the ways in which we perceive ourselves consciously, rather than how a therapist interprets our unconscious thoughts or ideas.
Every difficult situation or crisis holds the potential to become an opportunity and can lead to a positive, if not exciting, journey of self-understanding and self-discovery. I will help you to improve the relationship you have with yourself and with others and empower you to lead a more fulfilled and balanced life.
I warmly invite you to get in touch to discuss your situation, to book an appointment and/or find out more about Wilderness Therapy Journeys.
PARENT & SON/DAUGHTER
RELATIONSHIPS
I have a special interest and ability in helping parents and their children (teenagers and young adults ) to overcome conflict and build healthy and strong relationships, and in empowering teenagers to become independent, well-balanced and confident young adults.
I believe there is a lack of positive role models in particular for adolescent boys & young men in our society. As a strong and positive role model I have the ability to guide boys & young men through complicated times, enabling them to develop confidence, a positive male identity and to find their place in society.
FINDING A WAY OUT OF CRISIS
I work with people with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, loss, relationship challenges or abuse.
Please contact me to discuss your specific situation.
The person-centered approach can help you to develop self-confidence, a stronger sense of identity, the ability to build healthy interpersonal relationships and trust in your own decision making.
MEANING,
PURPOSE & A NEW DIRECTION
In today's world it can be increasingly difficult to hold on to a sense of self, meaning and purpose, yet the quest for meaning is fundamentally human and also deeply personal. I can guide you on your personal quest and help you to identify a new sense of purpose and direction and the steps that need to be taken to manifest meaningful change in your life.
For people beyond the age of 50 I offer 3-week journeys in the Himalayas, combining adventure, personal development and discovery with philanthropy. These journeys are specifically designed to restore your zest for life, recharge your batteries and help you find a new sense of meaning, purpose and direction. I graduated as a Person-Centred Counsellor in 1999 at Edinburgh University and am a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have over 30 years of in-depth experience of supporting, enabling and empowering young people and adults through challenge, enabling a positive process of self-discovery, increased self-awareness, confidence, agency and personal growth.
I have designed & facilitated personal development programmes for people from all ages and backgrounds from across the UK, and beyond into developing countries. I have designed, taken part in, lived in, and led expeditions in Australia, New Zealand, Siberia, Alaska, Greenland, Scotland, Europe, Africa, and the Himalayas.
I am the father of two teenage sons.
After over 30 years of helping people through challenge or personal crisis, my approach is guided by my deep-rooted experience and intuition as much as by my training as a Person-Centred Counsellor.
I am passionate about helping people overcome difficulties, by transforming what is challenging into an opportunity for personal growth, and facilitating a positive transition and deep change.
My approach is non-authoritative, allowing you to take a lead in discussions, in which I gently guide the therapeutic process by being focussed on your potential, competence and the present moment and future (rather than the past). I see my role as a compassionate facilitator and I listen respectfully and carefully without judgment.
My focus is on enabling you to achieve your full potential by facilitating a process of self-discovery in which you eventually find and self-actualize solutions.

In Edinburgh, I work in a quiet and peaceful flat overlooking the Meadows.
Should you feel more comfortable in open spaces then walks together are also possible.
